A fascinating map of the European view of Qinhuangdao in China at the turn of the century probably drawn up by a Chinese hand, and acquired by a British officer on duty with the 41st Dogras, c.1905. In the aftermath of the Boxer Rebellion 1899-1900, most foreign forces were withdrawn by 1901, but the treaty nations were allowed to maintain a permanent force in 12 locations in the Beijing, Tientsin, Chinwangtao triangle for the protection of their legations and foreign residential areas. The 1st Batallion of the 41st Dogras was an Indian regiment raised in 1900, and was sent to Chinwangtao in 1904, returning in 1908. Quinhuangdao is the chief port of Hebei Province
