Please note that a similar inscription by the same hand appears on the mount of a drawing of unknown location by Claude Lorrain (M. Roethlisberger, ‘Drawings by Claude Lorrain: The Past Fifty Years’, Master Drawings, LVI, no. 4, Winter, 2018, p. 498, fig. 21).
The use of both French and Dutch (‘asachtigh’, meaning ash grey) in the colour notes on the verso of the first drawing suggests the draughtsman was a Fleming.
