Lot Essay

This sheet was executed around 1685. Dusart also painted a similar composition on panel - with fewer figures in the same interior - which was offered at Christie's, New York, 19 May 1993, lot 24.
The inscription on the drawing was probably done by a later hand, as Dusart would often inscribe his homage drawings with both his name ('Cornelis Dusart fecit.') and Ostade's ('AvOstade pinx.').
We are grateful to Dr. Susan Anderson for confirming the attribution to Dusart and providing us with additional information about this drawing. We are also grateful to Berhnard Schnackenburg for confirming the attribution to Dusart.
