Lot Essay

The sitter was probably a daughter of Sir Henry Skipwith, 1st Bart. of Prestwould, Leicestershire by his wife, Amy, daughter of Sir Thomas Kempe. Sir Henry, a poet, sold the Prestwould estates in 1653 to Mr. Packe and was succeeded in the title by his son, Sir Henry, 2nd Bart.
