Second edition. Cowley was a teacher of mathematics and book-keeping at the academy in St Martins Lane from 1752 until 1761 when he was appointed Professor of Mathematics at the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich, a post he held until 1773 when he was succeeded by Charles Hutton. Wallis p.394.
