A study, probably modelled by Fanny Cornforth, for the figure of Laura in Rossetti's frontispiece to his sister Christina's Goblin Market and Other Poems, published by Macmillan in March 1862. The design, one of two which he made for the poem, was cut on wood by William Morris.
The drawing is almost certainly one of the 'pen-and-ink sketches' belonging to Fairfax Murray which Marillier mentions in discussing the Goblin Market designs. It was missing when Mrs Surtees' catalogue raisonné was published, although she noted Marillier's reference to the existence of preliminary studies
