Lot Essay

We are grateful to Fred Meijer of the RKD, The Hague, for suggesting that the present lot was painted by David, perhaps with some assistance from his father, Cornelis de Heem, on the basis of a photograph (written communication, 20 April 2014). This assistance would account for the signature.
