Lot Essay

Cox executed several watercolours of Mount Snowdon, generally small-scale watercolours that could well have been completed on the spot. Cox wrote to his wife on 19 June 1842: 'Oh, how much I should like to take you into Wales! It is the pleasantest country to go to for quiet and grand scenery; but it is in the truly rural simple state of nature - that is one of the great delights of going there' (N. Neale Solly, op. cit., p. 116).

For other David Cox watercolours see lots 155-158.
