Lot Essay

Wayne Sleep, a well-known actor and dancer, has modelled on many occasions for David Hockney. An unfinished painting of 1972-75, George Lawson and Wayne Sleep (private collection) shows him standing in a casual pose dressed in white, in contrast to his darkly dressed and formally presented lover Lawson. Hockney has also used him as a model for etchings and photo montages.
