Lot Essay

Cliff Robertson, an engineer by trade, had an exceptional ability for building locomotive models and restoring classic cars, and was known to David Shepherd through his passion for trains and engines. Aware that Robertson refused to accept money for his models (he produced them solely for the pleasure of making them) Shepherd presented him with the present lot in exchange for two model locomotive engines. The artist can be seen collecting the models in the illustrated photograph.
