After training under his brother in Antwerp, Teniers travelled to Rome in circa 1600, where he remained for five years. On his return to Antwerp in circa 1605, Teniers became a Master in the Guild of St. Luke and executed a number of altarpieces, between circa 1615 and 1620, for churches in Eastern Flanders.
