B. Robertson, J. Russell and Lord Snowdon, Private View, 1965, p. 252, illustrated.
The elements used in the present work derive from a barber's pole which Boshier kept in his studio. Bryan Robertson wrote 'Boshier is exploring the possibilities of the shaped canvas ... a three-dimensional thrust forward into space, which produces something half-way between painting and sculpture' (B. Robertson, J. Russell and Lord Snowdon, Private View, London, 1965, p. 252).
