Lot Essay

We are grateful to Dr. Eliska Fucíková for confirming the attribution on the basis of a colour transparency (written communication, 9 March 2006). She considers the present lot to date from the artist's late period at the court of Rudolf II and believes it to be one of his most accomplished works.
