Lot Essay

Dod Procter and her husband Ernest Procter spent most of their lives in the artists' colony in Newlyn; her work is mostly associated with the local countryside and its community. She was a prolific exhibitor at the Royal Academy and although her most renowned works are her female nudes (see lot 31), Proctor also painted many children's portraits.
