The drawing of a male nude is related to Creti's overdoor painting (fig. 1) of A River God though with slight variations to the figure's pose (Riccòmini and Bernardini, p. 73). In the painting the urn rests on the ground next to the boulder that the god is sitting on, so that his right arm is lower while his left arm is higher as it rests on a staff. Creti repeated this figure in another painting, Achilles plunged into the Styx and a corresponding bozzetto as well as in the foreground of The allegorical tomb of the Marchiones of Wharton.
