Creti explored the subject of Saint Jerome in many drawings and the present lot is particularly close in composition, dimensions and style to a sheet in the Hermitage, Saint Petersburg (M. Riccomini, Creti. Le opera su carta. Catalogue raggionato, Turin, 2012, no. 80.2, ill.).
