Lot Essay

Dorothy Hepworth was the lover of Stanley Spencer's second wife, Patrica Preece. Many of the works attributed to Preece are believed to be by Dorothy Hepworth. Such trickery also fooled Augustus John who declared Preece as one of England's best living woman artist's, better even than his own sister Gwen.
