DOYLE, Arthur Conan, Sir. Autograph letter signed ("A Conan Doyle") to an unidentified correspondent, Windlesham, Crowborough, Sussex, n.d. 1 page, 8vo, Crowborough Telegram office stationery.
Doyle replies to a complaint, apparently about an early Sherlock Holmes film, and denies any involvement: "Of course I had nothing to do with the production which I am told is not very good. But it is continually announced as being under my supervision. The Eclair Company should find some way of stopping this, or I shall have to deny it in print which would be a pity." Eclair was an Anglo-French firm which produced Sherlock Holmes films in the teens and alleged that Conan Doyle was personally involved on the set. See David Stuart Davies, Holmes of the Movies, New York, 1968 (included in this lot). According to Davies, it was not known if Doyle cooperated in the production or not.
[With]: Locke, George. Original Ink. [London]: Ferret, 1992. LIMITED EDITION, letter A of 16 lettered copies, signed and inscribed by Locke and containing original Arthur Conan Doyle manuscript material: one autograph letter signed and one letter signed, (both "Arthur Conan Doyle") mounted to blanks at end, n.d., and 15 May 1908 to unidentified correspondents, Windlesham, Crowborough, Sussex. Together 2 pages, 8vo, Crowborough Telegram office stationery. (3)
