Lot Essay

Grant executed numerous rug designs, including one for the Ideal Home Exhibition in 1913 and one for the dining room of Lady Gerald Wellesley at Penns-in-the-Rocks. The artist quite often used cut paper to organise the colour and shape disposition once a general design had been established. The lily motifs appear in other projects for decorative work including panels for H.M.S. Queen Mary and a Walton textile of 1936.
