Lot Essay

Mont Orgueil Castle, overlooking Gorey harbour, was originally built in 1204 and has had a long and eventful history.

Edmund Blampied was born in Jersey but moved to London at the age of sixteen to attend Lambeth School of Art. He returned to the Channel Islands and became perhaps their most prominent artist of the 20th Century, executing a series of paintings, as well as etchings and lithographs of distinction.
