Lot Essay

The subject of this painting depicts Napoleon’s victory over the Austrian forces. The Austrian prisoners are a mixture of cavalry, infantry and artillery, and are escorted by French Light Infantry whilst French dragoons in green on right look on. This work is directly inspired by his master Meissonier.
