Lot Essay

Edward Collier entered the guild at Leiden in 1673, and specialised in still-lifes, vanitas, and trompe l'oeil arrangements. He worked in London from c.1693-1698, of which the present work is an example. The paintings from this period were very often inscribed, as seen here, with 'Mr E. Collier, Painter at London'.
