Lot Essay

Corbould exhibited widely throughout his career and in 1871 was appointed 'Instructor of Historical Painting' to the Royal Family, a position he held for more than twenty years. Many of his works were acquired by Queen Victoria and went into her collections at Osborne House, Isle of Wight, and Buckingham Palace, London.
