Lot Essay

Predominantly successful as a mural painter as well as a sensitive easel painter of religious studies, Frampton's female figures are characterised by their soft, elegantly modelled faces. Although it is uncertain whether the present drawing relates to a specific painting, the gentle expression worn by the model is reminiscent of that of the girl in The Gothic Tower, offered in these Rooms 11 June 1993, lot 97.
