[c.1880] A planetarium, the 3-inch (9.5cm.) diameter terrestrial globe made up of twelve hand-coloured printed gores, the equatorial and prime meridian graduated in degrees, the latter running through Iceland, the ecliptic ungraduated, the continents coloured in outline in green and orange and showing rivers and some place names but no national boundaries (numerous abrasions and discolourations, some gores poorly aligned), the white-painted moonball attached with a wire to the geared mechanism at the North Pole, the globe in turn mounted on an related geared mechanism partially contained in a hexagonal brass drum, the brass arm with scroll support to geared mechanism and crank handle (replacement) with wire arms for gilt-painted wooden balls to represent Venus and Mercury, the printed Zodiac circle with reflector and blue glass oil reservoir with lamp fitting, raised on a brass baluster column with geared mechanism at the base to rotate long wire arm and white-painted wooden sphere to represent Mars, on cast iron plinth base with six short scroll legs terminating in lion's paw feet -- 28in.
