Taken by Delacroix from the Suite des portraits des empereurs turcs depuis la fondation de la monarchie jusqu'à l'an 1815 gravés d'après les tableaux faits à Constantinople, ouvrage commencé sous les auspices du Sultan Selim III et achevé sous les ordres du Sultan Mahmoud second.... Other drawings by Delacroix derived from the same print series, including one of the head of Mehmet II, are in a sketchbook used by the artist between 1825-30 and now in the Louvre (M. Sérullaz, A. Sérullaz, L.-A. Prat, and C. Ganeval, Inventaire général des dessins. Ecole Française. Dessins d'Eugène Delacroix, II, Paris, 1984, p. 349).
