a fine late 18th-Century silver-cased compass signed on the enamelled dial DOLLOND LONDON with seven points and a fleur-de-lys for North, edgebar needle and suspension loop, in a circular red plush-lined fishskin-covered wooden case with a brass hook and eye -- 4.8cm. (1 7/8in.) dia.; a mid 19th-Century gilt-cased compass signed on the enamelled dial JOHN CAIL NEWCASTLE ON TYNE with thirty-one points and a fleur-de-lys for North, and circumference degree scale in four quadrants, edgebar needle and suspension loop, in a circular red plush and silk-lined maroon leather-covered case with two brass hooks and eyes -- 6.2cm. (2 3/8in.) dia.; a late 19th-Century unsigned compass with nickel-plated brass case, enamelled dial with fifteen points and fleur-de-lys, circumference degree scale in four quadrants, blued-steel needle marked N and S and suspension loop, in a circular blue plush-lined leather-covered case with one brass hook and eye -- 5.3cm. (2 1/8in.) dia.; an early 20th-Century brass-cased surveyor's compass with steel dial, blued-steel needle and clamp, raised circumference scale 1-360° and leveling scale in two quadrants with pierced brass index, with twin folding sights, suspension loop, hinged lid and standing foot -- 7.2cm.
