8° (157 x 97mm). (Lacking front blank, A2-4 and part of B1 in facsimile, some marginal repairs, occasionally with a few words or letters supplied). 19th-century calf, spine gilt in compartments, edges red (extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: V.A. Krylov (stamps).

FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST BOOK IN ENGLISH ON RUSSIA. VERY RARE: Eastland merchants, fearing reprisals as a result of the English ambassador's strongly expressed views, prevailed on Lord Bughley to suppress the work. From the library of the noted bibliophile V.A. Krylov (1898-1986; cf. M.V. Bokarius Nevskii Bibliofil (2001), pp.93-103 ).
