The present picture may derive from one of two known autograph versions, one signed and dated 1745, last recorded in Naples in 1928 and the other sold at Christie's, London, 23 March 1973, lot 92 (see F.Arisi, Gian Paolo Panini e i fasti della Roma del '700, Rome, 1986, pp.410 and 456, nos. 358 and 453, illustrated).
