Lot Essay

The former attribution to Binoit was suggested by Nystad after this picture had been purchased from him by Dr. Dreesmann. In a letter dated 2 November 1962, he noted that the new attribution had been confirmed by Heer Bol of the Dordrechts Museum and Heer Juynbol of the RKD. In terms of composition and style, however, the picture seems closer to the work of Andries Daniels, and is, for example, comparable with that sold anonymously in these Rooms, 10 July 1987, lot 41.
