The Adoration of the Shepherds; and The Circumcision

The prototype for the Adoration is in the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota (see O. Ferrari and G. Scavizzi, Luca Giordano, Naples, 1992, I, p.305, no. A322, II, p.639, fig. 428). Two copies with similar dimensions to the present picture are known: that in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna and the picture sold at Christie's, London, 15 July 1977, lot 100. A version of the ircumcision, again of similar size to the present picture, was sold at Christie's, London, 21 July 1972, lot 53.
