The Rest on the Flight into Egypt

The present picture derives from the print by Hendrick Snyers (Hollstein, XXVII, no.3) after a picture by Anthony van Dyck in the Royal Collection (see E.Larsen, The Paintings of Sir Anthony van Dyck, Dsseldorf, 1988, no.624, illustrated). Larsen records another grisaille in the collection of Mrs. Charles Volz, Kelsale, Kelsale Manor (ibid., no.643, illustrated).
