Lot Essay

Sir John Rawdon (1719-1793), 1st Earl of Moira succeeded his father, Sir John Rawdon 2nd Bt. of Rawdon Hall, Yorkshire and Moira, County Down, in 1724. He was created Baron Rawdon of Rawdon, County Down, in 1750 and made 1st Earl of Moira in 1762.

His third wife was Elizabeth Hastings, daughter of Theophilus, 9th Earl of Huntingdon and Selina, daughter of the 2nd Earl Ferrers.
