Lot Essay

The two horses in the foreground recur in a picture of similar dimensions and subject which was sold in Rome in 1995 (G. Sestieri, I Pittori di Battaglie: Maestri italiani e stranieri del XVII e XVIII secolo, Rome, 1999, p. 362, fig. 2).
