Lot Essay

The present work is from a series entitled 'Jack and Tommy' which was published in 1916 by Grant Richards, London. The inspiration for this work was a series of drawings Cadell executed in late 1915 before being posted to serve in the trenches in France. Sixteen of the drawings were sold at the Society of Eight Exhibition in November 1916 for 100.
