Lot Essay

Francisco Masriera y Manovens, an important Spanish genre painter was born in Barcelona in 1842. He was a pupil of Serra and worked often with his brother José. He obtained a bronze medal in 1889 at the Exposition Universelle in Paris. There is a work of his Attente in Madrid. His works are infused with a mystic symbolism and this large work is a good example of this.
