The "Revolution 2" exists in a sequence of innovative tourbillons by Franck Muller that represent the pinnacle of the company's production: the "Revolution 1", introduced in 2002, "Revolution 2", first unveiled in April of 2003, the "Revolution 3", released in 2004 and the "Evolution" in 2005. The "Revolution 2" represents the first dual axis tourbillon wherein the balance wheel is horizontal making the balance staff vertical allowing the carriage to turn on a different axis. The normal tourbillon carriage revolves once per minute while the perpendicular carriage takes eight minutes to complete the cycle and the rotation time can be read on the retrograde sector at 5 o'clock. This masterful example of watchmaking is contained within Muller's hallmark case design of tonneau-form known as the Cintree Curvex, inspired by the barrel-shaped wristwatches that first appeared in the 1920's.
The present watch represents the first appearance of the "Revolution 2" at auction. Produced in a very small numbers, this watch, No. 00 was rumoured to have been reserved for Franck Muller himself.
