Provenance
The celebrated collection of Mr Vincent, Paris, sold en bloc by his only son Prosper Vincent to Félix Panhard, on 2 April 1883, for 210,000 Gold Francs.

Thence by family descent until the sale of the Panhard Collection, part I, Palais Galliéra, Paris, 5 December 1975, lot 50 (as 'Portrait d'un homme de lettres ou d'État').
