Lot Essay

The panel maker's mark '*' was used by an Antwerp workshop between 1619-1650; to date the name of this workshop is unknown.

We are grateful to Mr. Fred Meijer of the RKD for confirming the attribution for the still life elements to Ykens on the basis of a transparency. The Virgin and Child are probably the work of another hand.
