Lot Essay

The Austrian Franz Anton Maulbertsch was the leading fresco painter of the Habsburg Empire during the late Baroque period and is today considered one of the finest painters of his time, alongside G. B. Tiepolo. His printed oeuvre is small and extremely rare.
