Lot Essay

The present lot is the preliminary design for the National Merchant Navy monument De Boeg on the Leuvenhaven in Rotterdam. De Boeg is 45 meters high.
It was erected in memory of more then 3500 civilians on board who died during the shipwreck of almost 500 merchant navy boats in WWII.
