Lot Essay

The Simoa River in Southern Norway was a favorite subject of Thaulow's which he depicted many times. The original oil version, dated 1883, hangs in the National Gallery, Oslo.

Henry Lerolle (1848-1929) was a French painter who was a close friend of Thaulow. They exhibited together at the Salon de Champs-de-Mars, Paris from 1890 onwards.
