Volume I [all published], 8° (220 x 130mm). (Some spotting, some waterstains at beginning and end.) Uncut and unopened in original wrappers, covers with woodcut vignettes, title printed on spine (some wear to extremities, a little spotting and staining).
FIRST EDITION. Through his study of Romantic attitudes, Fröbel developed new ideas in child education which he put into practice by founding the first pedagogical institute in Keilhau in 1817. He transferred the idea of a creative spirit working in nature to human development in its earliest stages, linking this to practical training based on the methodical use of toys ('Gaben') such as the soft ball and cubes. In 1840, Fröbel introduced the term 'Kindergarten' into education. Die Menschenerziehung was his first major publication on the education of young children, designed to stimulate parental consciousness of a child's mental and emotional needs.
