This was the year of the Philadelphians, the skill of J.B. King against Lancashire at Manchester, 6-8 June, being such that he 'at one time took five wickets (all clean bowled) for seven runs in fifteen balls. On three occasions during the innings he took two wickets with consecutive balls, obtaining the last three in five balls' (p. 48). Wynne-Thomas p. 21; Padwick 920.
