Lot Essay

The present work depicts Margaret and Helen Thomas, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Washington B. Thomas, at their Pride's Crossing, Massachusetts estate. The present work is one of two versions of The Thomas Sisters. The other version, painted in 1901, is currently in the collection of The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
