Lot Essay

George Denholm Armour received his artistic training in Edinburgh, and later moved to London where he exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1884-1928. The artist also worked as an illustrator for Punch, Tatler and The Graphic. Armour later settled in Wiltshire where he gained great popularity as a painter of horses, dogs and hunting scenes. This is a rare Orientalist scene by the artist.
