Portrait of Henry Beale Esq., on a hunter, with his greyhounds, including Sampler and Sapphire, in an extensive landscape
signed and dated 'G.H. Laporte/1863' (lower left) with inscription 'Portrait of HENRY BEALE (a well-known judge of greyhounds)/seated on the hack on which his son jumped the Grand National/Course. The name of one greyhound is not known but the other/two were SAMPLER and SAPPHIRE, both famous in their day. The/picture was painted on Aintree racecourse./(Information supplied by previous owner who was a descendant/of Henry Beale).' (on a label on the reverse)
