Lot Essay

Christchurch bay, western Isle of Wight, looks on to the Needles at the western most point of the island. Today there are only three chalk pinnacles of approximately 100 ft. (30 m.), but at the time when Vincent painted the present work there were five.

For more information on the artist, see lot 123.
