GERSHWIN, George (1898-1937). Portrait photograph inscribed and signed WITH A FOUR-BAR AUTOGRAPH QUOTATION FROM "RHAPSODY IN BLUE." N.p., n.d. [1924 or later]. 250 x 195mm. A fine shoulder-length portrait of a young Gershwin in suit and tie, by Mischy(?) of New York. BOLDLY INSCRIBED in ink in blank lower margin: "To Walter Pojek - Good Wishes, George Gershwin," with a clearly penned four-bar musical quotation of the principal theme from "Rhapsody in Blue" (in E-Major). "Rhapsody in Blue," composed for a famous jazz concert at New York's Aeolian Hall, was first performed on 12 February 1924 by the Paul Whiteman Orchestra with Gershwim at the piano.
