Lot Essay

Gigi Scaria explores issues of migration, displacement, social prejudice and class attitude in his work, examining these forces through close analysis of location and city structures. The artist frequently references his own native city of New Delhi in his subject matter, using cartography and architectonic devices to construct his precise uncluttered works. Working in a variety of different media, including sculpture, painting and photography, Scaria also expertly uses both history and irony in his work.
In this photograph Scaria turns the Trojan horse inside out in order to expose the deceit and trickery carefully hidden within the object.
